A short time ago, the United States military began major combat operations in Iran. Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime. For 47 years, the Iranian regime has chanted Death to America and waged an unending campaign of bloodshed and mass murder, targeting the United States, our troops and the innocent people in many, many countries. In 1983, Iran’s proxies carried out the marine barracks bombing in Beirut that killed 241 American military personnel.

In 2000, they knew and were probably involved with the attack on the USS Cole. Many died. Iranian forces killed and maimed hundreds of American service members in Iraq. The regime’s proxies have continued to launch countless attacks against American forces stationed in the Middle East in recent years, as well as U.S. naval and commercial vessels and international shipping lines. It’s been mass terror, and we’re not going to put up with it any longer.

From Lebanon to Yemen and Syria to Iraq, the regime has armed, trained and funded terrorist militias that have soaked the earth with blood and guts. And it was Iran’s proxy, Hamas, that launched the monstrous Oct. 7 attacks on Israel, slaughtering more than 1,000 innocent people, including 46 Americans, while taking 12 of our citizens hostage. It was brutal, something like the world has never seen before.

Iran is the world’s number one state sponsor of terror, and just recently killed tens of thousands of its own citizens on the street as they protested. It has always been the policy of the United States, in particular my administration, that this terrorist regime can never have a nuclear weapon. I’ll say it again, they can never have a nuclear weapon. That is why in Operation Midnight Hammer last June, we obliterated the regime’s nuclear program at Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. After that attack, we warned them never to resume their malicious pursuit of nuclear weapons, and we sought repeatedly to make a deal. We tried. They wanted to do it. They didn’t want to do it. Again they wanted to do it. They didn’t want to do it. They didn’t know what was happening. They just wanted to practice evil. But Iran refused, just as it has for decades and decades.

They’ve rejected every opportunity to renounce their nuclear ambitions, and we can’t take it anymore. Instead, they attempted to rebuild their nuclear program and to continue developing the long range missiles that can now threaten our very good friends and allies in Europe, our troops stationed overseas, and could soon reach the American homeland. Just imagine how emboldened this regime would be if they ever had, and actually were armed with nuclear weapons as a means to deliver their message.

For these reasons, the United States military is undertaking a massive and ongoing operation to prevent this very wicked, radical dictatorship from threatening America and our core national security interests. We’re going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. It will be totally again obliterated. We’re going to annihilate their navy. We’re going to ensure that the region’s terrorist proxies can no longer destabilize the region or the world and attack our forces, and no longer use their IEDs, or roadside bombs as they are sometimes called, to so gravely wound and kill thousands and thousands of people, including many Americans. And we will ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon. It’s a very simple message. They will never have a nuclear weapon.

This regime will soon learn that no one should challenge the strength and might of the United States Armed Forces. I built and rebuilt our military in my first administration and there is no military on earth even close to its power, strength or sophistication. My administration is taking every possible step to minimize the risk to U.S. personnel in the region. Even so, and I do not make this statement lightly, the Iranian regime seeks to kill. The lives of courageous American heroes may be lost, and we may have casualties. That often happens in war. But we’re doing this not for now. We’re doing this for the future. And it is a noble mission. We pray for every service member as they selflessly risk their lives to ensure that Americans and our children will never be threatened by a nuclear-armed Iran. We ask God to protect all of our heroes in harm’s way. And we trust that with his help, the men and women of the armed forces will prevail. We have the greatest in the world, and they will prevail.

To the members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the armed forces and all of the police, I say tonight that you must lay down your weapons and have complete immunity. Or in the alternative, face certain death. So, lay down your arms. You will be treated fairly with total immunity, or you will face certain death. – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commenced Operation Epic Fury, Feb. 28, at the direction of the President of the United States.

U.S. and partner forces began striking targets at 1:15 am ET to dismantle the Iranian regime’s security apparatus, prioritizing locations that posed an imminent threat. Targets included Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command and control facilities, Iranian air defense capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields.

“The President ordered bold action, and our brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Guardians, and Coast Guardsmen are answering the call,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.

Following the initial wave of U.S. and partner strikes, CENTCOM forces successfully defended against hundreds of Iranian missile and drone attacks. There have been no reports of U.S. casualties or combat-related injuries. Damage to U.S. installations was minimal and has not impacted operations.

The first hours of the operation included precision munitions launched from air, land, and sea. Additionally, CENTCOM’s Task Force Scorpion Strike employed low-cost one-way attack drones for the first time in combat.

President Trump announces U.S. combat operations in Iran

KANSAS CITY —Four people including a police officer were injured in a drive-by shooting into a church during a funeral in Kansas City on Friday.

Just after 11a.m. officers were working in an off-duty capacity at New Beginning Apostolic Church  in the 200 block of North Bales, according to KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.&nbsp; Officers were inside the church when shots were fired from the outside.&nbsp; Those gun shots came inside of the church.

As a result of the shots being fired an officer was injured. Late Friday it was unknown if the wound is a result of shattered glass, or a bullet graze.&nbsp; The officer was treated and released at the scene.

During the incident members of the congregation were gathered for a funeral.&nbsp; Two additional victims were struck by gunfire.&nbsp; An adult female and an adult male victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and responded to local hospitals for treatment.&nbsp; A third adult male victim was injured by unknown means with what are also considered non-life-threatening injuries.&nbsp;

This is being investigated as an aggravated assault, according to DiMartino. Police have not reported an arrest.

🎥 Former President Bill Clinton's opening statement to House Oversight Committee

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating an alleged armed carjacking in Manhattan and have made arrests.

Just after 1:30p.m. Thursday, officers filed a report of robbery near Beck Street and Casement Road, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

A 28-year-old man reported a known 67-year-old male suspect stole his 2013 Dodge Ram truck at gunpoint. The truck was later recovered. Michael Ivy, 67, of Wamego, was arrested at 7:41 p.m. in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road for aggravated robbery.&nbsp; Ivy is being held on a $125,000 bond&nbsp;

&nbsp;Two other arrests were made as a result of the initial report, including Otto Tisdale, 40, of St. George, who was arrested at 5:29 p.m. in the 300 block of Allen Road. He is being held in the Riley County Jail on requested charges of violating the offender registration act, possession of opiate/opium/narcotic or certain stimulant, and for the use/possession of with intent to use drug paraphernalia in the human body.&nbsp;

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating an alleged armed carjacking in Manhattan and have made arrests.Just after 1:30p.m. Thursday, officers filed a report of robbery near Beck Street and Casement Road, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.A 28-year-old man reported a known 67-year-old male suspect stole his 2013 Dodge Ram truck at gunpoint. The truck was later recovered. Michael Ivy, 67, of Wamego, was arrested at 7:41 p.m. in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road for aggravated robbery.&nbsp; Ivy is being held on a $125,000 bond&nbsp;&nbsp;Two other arrests were made as a result of the initial report, including Otto Tisdale, 40, of St. George, who was arrested at 5:29 p.m. in the 300 block of Allen Road. Hundreds of Missourians with disabilities, their families and advocates crowded into the Capitol rotunda Wednesday for a rally on the state’s 25th annual Disability Rights Legislative Day, spilling into surrounding halls and onto the stairs framing the speakers’ podium.

<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2026/02/13/families-caregivers-plead-with-missouri-lawmakers-to-reverse-governors-disability-cuts/">Personal testimony from dozens of Missourians</a>&nbsp;earlier this month moved a bipartisan group of lawmakers to pledge to restore $80.7 million in cuts to disability care services recommended in Gov. Mike Kehoe’s&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2026/01/13/missouri-revenue-surplus-nearly-gone-as-gov-mike-kehoe-unveils-his-budget-plan/">proposed budget</a>&nbsp;for fiscal year 2027.

Suzie Parker, president of People First of Missouri, told the gathering that their stories are why lawmakers are scrambling to find funding for the services, which help people with disabilities live safely in their homes and participate actively in their communities.

“The impact is our story,” Parker said. “The impact is what [lawmakers] will take when they are arguing the bills on the House floor and how they affect our lives.”

Kehoe’s spending plan would cut $6.2 million in state spending on self-directed supports, a Medicaid program allowing individuals with disabilities or their families to hire and train specialized care staff. It would also slash $21.9 million in general revenue funding from structured group day programs, called day habilitation, and eliminate two other services, including one designed to help people with disabilities more independently navigate their communities.

In an online meeting of the Missouri SDS Family Support Group this week, steering committee member Larry Opinsky told more than a hundred attendees that as the House Budget Committee contemplates amendments to Kehoe’s budget, the time had come to focus on the Senate.

“This is a significant, significant thing that we’ve done in the House,” he said, “and [that] we’re planning on doing in the Senate.”

Like Parker, Opinsky said showing lawmakers the impact of the cuts has interrupted the routine of the Capitol.

“Jeff City operates on a regular basis with corporate lobbying,” Opinsky said. “…They are not used to hearing from individual families and stories from every corner of the state.”

Lawmakers’ discussion of the issue moved squarely into the Senate Wednesday, as Republican state Sen. Lincoln Hough of Springfield unveiled an alternative to Kehoe’s proposed budget.&nbsp;

Hough, who was&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2025/09/14/missouri-gop-senator-slams-party-leaders-for-forcing-vote-on-bills-without-allowing-debate/">ousted as chairman</a>&nbsp;of the Senate Appropriations Committee in September, proposed restoring Kehoe’s cuts to disability services with $105 million, including $32 million in general revenue. To obtain more revenue for all of state government, Hough’s plan would take money from funds the state&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2022/06/03/a-piece-of-history-for-your-house-missouri-auctions-stone-salvaged-from-capitol-building/">set aside in 2022</a>&nbsp;and 2023 for an underground expansion of the Capitol.

After Hough began introducing his budget package, Republican state Sen. Rusty Black of Chillicothe, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, said in a press release he intends “to work with colleagues to restore these cuts [to disability services] as the Senate builds its budget.”

As lawmakers pitch ideas to sustain funding for these services, advocates cautioned that some of their proposals would be partial or short-term fixes, or entail cutting other parts of Missouri’s social safety net.

Republican state Rep. Darin Chappell of Rogersville, chair of the House subcommittee overseeing health, mental health and social services, said Monday that he&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2026/02/23/missouri-house-passes-supplemental-spending-bill-that-pushes-state-budget-to-55-billion/">plans to slice $500 million in general revenue spending</a>&nbsp;from those departments’ budgets before they leave his desk, though he reiterated his promise to do his “dead-level best” to fund the disability services.

It’s not clear yet what would be targeted for cuts, or what Republican state Rep. Dirk Deaton of Seneca, chair of the House Budget Committee, would send to the full chamber.&nbsp;

But Christina Ingoglia, director of policy advocacy for the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council, told The Independent that any cuts to the state’s safety net would impact people with disabilities.

“People with developmental disabilities are in all these populations,” Ingoglia said.&nbsp;

Lawmakers are also trying to generate funds from video lottery machines that would be licensed under a bill&nbsp;<a href="https://missouriindependent.com/2026/02/18/missouri-house-narrowly-passes-bill-to-regulate-gray-market-slot-machines/">narrowly passed in the House last week</a>. An&nbsp;<a href="https://documents.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bills261/amendpdf/6459H03.18H.pdf" target="_blank">amendment</a>&nbsp;proposed by Republican state Rep. Melanie Stinnett of Springfield would earmark proceeds from an annual $250 fee per machine to fund “community services and support” for people with developmental disabilities.

Stinnett told The Independent that the measure could generate $7 million to $10 million annually after a transitional period when “gray-market” machines would be phased out.&nbsp;

That would not be enough to replace the $28.6 million in proposed cuts to disability services. Opinsky told The Independent that the amendment still “could be a piece of the puzzle.”&nbsp;

The&nbsp;<a href="https://house.mo.gov/Bill.aspx?bill=HB2989&amp;year=2026&amp;code=R" target="_blank">video lottery bill</a>, sponsored by Republican state Rep. Bill Hardwick of Dixon, could encounter headwinds in the Senate. Senate President Pro Tem Cindy O’Laughlin, a Shelbina Republican, has suggested that because federal courts have ruled the machines illegal, the state should be “clearing them out.”

O’Laughlin wrote in a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10240865124508050&amp;id=1312548800" target="_blank">social media post</a>&nbsp;last week that the state should only make cuts impacting disabled Missourians “if there’s nowhere else to turn” and suggested finding savings through a “hiring and wage freeze” for state employees.&nbsp;

Stinnett said that if the bill carrying her amendment fails, she will “continue to search for other options” to fund the services.

“I viewed this as a really unique opportunity, especially in a tighter budget year, to find a space to create something that could not only be funded by this bill, but if created, then could accept grants and other funds,” Stinnett said.

Amid the buzz about potential funding sources, disability advocates and Missourians with disabilities at the Capitol this week emphasized the importance of services that help people play an active role in their communities.

Tierra Taylor, a direct support professional at United Cerebral Palsy in St. Louis, said day habilitation provides essential support to individuals with high needs.

“What other help would they have?” Taylor asked. “What other support would they have?”

Tosha Harper, a manager at Rainbow Abilities Center in Union, told The Independent that in addition to teaching life skills, the center lets clients have fun.

Outings are a highlight for Troy Kirk, who has been attending day habilitation at the center for seven years. He’s been to baseball games, a pickleball event center and the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in St. Louis. He said these experiences have been “fantastic.”

His message to lawmakers? “No cuts, no buts, buy me lunch!”

Missouri lawmakers explore options to restore disability services funding

On February 27, the Department of State authorized the departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel and family members of U.S. government personnel from Mission Israel due to safety risks.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In response to security incidents and without advance notice, the U.S. Embassy may further restrict or prohibit U.S. government employees and their family members from traveling to certain areas of Israel, the Old City of Jerusalem, and the West Bank. Persons may wish to consider leaving Israel while commercial flights are available.

Country Summary:&nbsp;Terrorist groups, lone-actor terrorists and other violent extremists continue plotting possible attacks in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza. Due to the risks, U.S. government employees working in Israel are currently restricted from personal travel within 4 kilometers/2.5 miles of the Lebanese and Syrian borders. Due to the risks, U.S. government employees working in Israel must obtain special authorization to travel close to these borders.

The U.S. Embassy strongly recommends that U.S. citizens not travel within 4 kilometers/2.5 miles of the Lebanese and Syrian borders.

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas city man faces multiple felony charges&nbsp;in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred during an attempted home invasion in 2024.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.jacksoncountyprosecutor.com/DocumentCenter/View/2814/Perkins-Redacted-Complaint">Sheldon Perkins</a>, 34,&nbsp;faces 2nd Degree Felony Murder, 1st Degree Attempted Robbery, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, 1st Degree Burglary, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, according to&nbsp;Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

<a href="https://www.jacksoncountyprosecutor.com/DocumentCenter/View/2815/Perkins-Redacted-PC">According to court records</a>, Kansas City detectives determined Perekins allegedly recruited two other men, including his brother, to help him rob the occupants of a Kansas City residence on August 26, 2024. The three men forced their way into the home, where an altercation ensued with one of the occupants of the residence.&nbsp;

During the struggle, a firearm belonging to one of the intruders became loose. The second occupant of the home picked up the firearm and fired at the men. The gunfire killed one of the intruders and injured the other two, including the defendant, who fled the scene and checked into a nearby hospital.&nbsp;

The occupant who fired the shots called 911 to report the attempted robbery and shooting.

When Kansas City police arrived at the residence, they found one victim outside the home with gunshot wounds to the back. He was transported to a nearby hospital and determined to be paralyzed as a result of the shooting. Inside the residence, officers found a second victim who was deceased.&nbsp;

DNA testing of the firearms recovered at the crime scene found the Perkin’s DNA on two of the firearms.

Suspect was wounded in failed KC home-invasion robbery

WYANDOTTE COUNTY- A man wanted for murder in Denver remains behind bars in Kansas, after a multi-agency traffic stop.

Just after noon, Feb. 20, The FBI and Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department's Special Operations Unit and Violent Crimes Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Kansas City, Kansas, according to a statement from KCK Police.

During the stop, police arrested 20-year-old Yeanbraiker Yriarte-Valera who&nbsp;was a passenger inside the vehicle.

Yriarte-Valera is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on&nbsp;a first-degree murder charge from Denver and a separate hold from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to online jail records.

TOPEKA —&nbsp;FIFA World Cup games will go around-the-clock, but under current law the alcoholic drinks in Kansas will stop before the final whistle.&nbsp;

A proposed Senate bill would change that.

Proponents are worried that fans will cross the border to Missouri, which&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kshb.com/sports/world-cup/where-kansas-city-area-cities-stand-on-23-hour-alcohol-sales-during-world-cup-in-missouri" target="_blank">already passed</a>&nbsp;legislation to extend liquor sales to 23 hours of the day.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sen. Adam Thomas, a Republican from Olathe with decades of restaurant experience, modeled&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kslegislature.gov/li/b2025_26/measures/sb393/" target="_blank">Senate Bill 393</a>&nbsp;after Missouri’s law.&nbsp;

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime deal. The reason this was brought is because as we know, last year Missouri already passed this,” Thomas said. “As we know, KCK is not that far from the state line.”

The bill would authorize bars, restaurants and liquor stores to sell liquor from 6 a.m. to 5 a.m. for the duration of the World Cup, which is predicted to bring&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/briefs/kansas-disaster-declaration-prepares-state-for-world-cup-visitor-boom/">650,000 visitors</a>&nbsp;this summer. Thomas said the one-hour window is to give restaurant staff time to recoup.&nbsp;

Kansas will be the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sportingkc.com/news/kansas-city-selected-by-four-national-teams-for-base-camps-emerging-as-the-base-camp-capital-of-the-fifa-world-cup-2026tm" target="_blank">home base</a>&nbsp;for two teams: Argentina at Kansas City’s Sporting KC Training Center, and Algeria at Lawrence’s Rock Chalk Park. Missouri will have two teams as well, with England at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Netherlands at Riverside’s KC Current Training Facility.&nbsp;

Janez Lomshek, who owns bars and grills in Johnson County, testified on behalf of the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association. Lomshek said he already has invested tens of thousands of dollars in renovations in anticipation.&nbsp;

“Our current alcohol sales hour restrictions risk preventing us from fully accommodating this international moment,” Lomshek said in his written testimony. “A meaningful share of visitor spending — especially during late-night or early morning games due to global scheduling — could easily cross State Line Road into Missouri.”

“With a full one-third of Kansas alcohol licensees located within 10 miles of the Missouri border, and about 26.4% in Wyandotte and Johnson Counties alone (including businesses like mine), this cross-border diversion represents a real threat to local revenue,” he added.

Sen. Ron Ryckman, R-Meade, said he is apprehensive about changing the drinking hours for the whole state, including his southwest Kansas district — far away from the World Cup action.

“I’m not excited about people in southwest Kansas drinking till 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning,” Ryckman said. “We know the problem that alcohol causes there, and I know you do too.”

Thomas said the bill wouldn’t force businesses to be open late, just give them the option.&nbsp;

“We’re not mandating that anybody do this,” Thomas said. “ We’re simply opening the door for folks, that right now instead of staying open till 2 a.m., have that couple of extra hours to sell.”

There was no neutral or opposition testimony for the bill, but Sen. Kenny Titus, R-Manhattan, brought up the security needs associated with late-night and early-morning drinking. Lomshek said his bars and grills would have extra staff on board, and their kitchens would stay open later.

Sen. Stephen Owens, a Republican from Hesston, asked Thomas a joking question: “Nothing good happens after midnight. What good is going to happen after midnight here?”

“We’re already open till 2 right now,” Thomas replied. “So I would argue if nothing good happens after midnight the difference between 2 and 5 is — not much is going to change.”

Senate bill would uncork round-the-clock drinking in Kansas during FIFA World Cup

Kan. U.S. Senator applauds removal of prairie-chicken from ESA list

A 44-year-old Columbia, Missouri, man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for a multi-state crime spree involving drug trafficking and firearm possession, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Walter Antwine Moore received his 180-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Greg Kays following guilty pleas to drug distribution and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The legal proceedings consolidated crimes committed across three different jurisdictions between late 2022 and early 2023.

The earliest incident occurred on December 6, 2022, at a casino in Quapaw, Oklahoma. After losing over $1,000 at a blackjack table, Moore became belligerent toward a dealer and made threats involving "yellow police tape and sirens." When Quapaw Marshals attempted a pat-down, Moore reached into his jacket and tried to flee. During a struggle with deputies, a baggie in Moore’s possession burst, scattering 913 blue fentanyl pills across the floor.

A month later, on January 7, 2023, police in St. Joseph, Missouri, responded to a convenience store report of a man stealing potato chips and attempting to sell drugs. Upon searching Moore’s vehicle, officers discovered:

The final confrontation took place on February 10, 2023, at a train station in Kansas City, Missouri. When interdiction detectives questioned Moore upon his arrival, he became confrontational and attempted to run. After being tackled by tactical officers, investigators recovered a cellophane-wrapped bundle nearby containing approximately 2,300 fentanyl pills.

The case was a collaborative effort between the Western District of Missouri and the Northern District of Oklahoma. The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the DEA, ATF, the Quapaw Nation Marshals Service, and various regional drug task forces. Moore was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Trey Alford and Adam McConney.

Columbia man gets 15 years after St. Joe, Kansas City, Oklahoma drug busts

Detectives began using investigative leads to locate the vehicle.&nbsp;

Due to the circumstances, the victim was entered as a missing person in Independence.&nbsp;

Through multiple witness reports and surveillance footage, detectives identified Phillips as the shooter. Detectives determined he shot the victim multiple times while she was in the back of his vehicle in the early morning hours of Nov. 28.&nbsp; Ring camera footage captured the sound of gunshots coming from the location of his vehicle where it had been reported the shooting had occurred, and Phillips was seen in video footage multiple times carrying a firearm.&nbsp;

On November 29, police found the victim deceased in Kansas City. Phillips' cell phone pinged in the area where the victim’s body was located.

A Jackson County judge set Phillips’s bond at $350,000 cash only.&nbsp;

Prosecutors charged the defendant on December 3, 2025, under seal. The case has been unsealed this week.

VP: Largest anti-fraud effort of its kind in Medicaid history

SHAWNE COUNTY—A family pet died in a house fire on Wednesday in Topeka.

Just after 4:30p.m., crews&nbsp;responded to a two-story house fire at 420 SW Woodlawn Avenue in Topeka, according to a media release.

Fire crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the first floor of the residence and initiated an interior fire attack and successfully extinguished the fire.

Fire crews conducted a systematic search of the structure and safely removed two dogs and one cat. Life-saving efforts, including CPR, were administered to one of the dogs, but despite those efforts, the dog did not survive. No occupants were home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature:&nbsp;&nbsp;Smoke detectors were found in the home.

Family pet dies after fire at Kansas home

BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a chase involving a stolen car.

Just after 5:30a.m. Wednesday, a sheriff's deputy running radar observed a Kia passenger car traveling over 90 miles per hour, west bound on US 54 in the area of Santa Fe Lake Road according to Butler County Undersheriff Daimon Cundiff.

The deputy was able to get behind the Kia at the stop light located at Santa Fe Lake Road. The deputy attempted to stop the Kia west of the intersection but the vehicle fled westbound reaching speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour. 

As the pursuit entered Andover, the driver of the Kia ran the red lights on US 54 at both Yorktown and Andover Road. The deputy terminated the pursuit. 

A short time later, the deputy was notified of a crash at the intersection of US 54 and 143rd St. East and responded to the scene. It was found that the Kia was involved in the crash and the driver had fled the scene on foot after side-swiping one vehicle and striking another. 

The occupant of the struck vehicle was transported to a local Wichita hospital with minor injuries. Through investigation it was determined that the Kia had been stolen in El Dorado but had not yet been reported. 

Through the use of a Wichita Police Department drone, a Butler County K9 team, and quick collaboration with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol Air Section, and the Andover Police Department the suspect was located north and west of the crash scene hiding in the trees. 

He has been identified as Levi H. Nash, 30, of rural El Dorado. He has been booked into the Butler County Jail on requested charges of Felony Fleeing and Eluding, Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer, Reckless Aggravated Battery, Felony Theft, Reckless Driving, and other traffic related charges. Nash is also confirmed to have extraditable felony warrants from another jurisdiction, according to Cundiff.
