SEDGWICK COUNTY —A man arrested in Missouri for a deadly shooting in Wichita will return to court Thursday.
Donny J. Harris, 27, of Springfield, Missouri, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in the courtroom of Judge Jeffrey Goering, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. He is charged with first-degree murder.
Just after 8a.m. Jan. 26., police were dispatched to the the 900 block of East Indianapolis in Wichita for a reported welfare check after receiving information about a man down, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.
Upon arrival, officers located 37-year-old Julio Osborne suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Wichita police officers and detectives conducted a thorough and comprehensive investigation, working through challenging weather conditions and utilizing multiple departmental resources.
Officers from multiple WPD sections, Crime Scene Investigators, K-9 Mantra, and Flock technology were utilized to canvass the area, locate evidence, and develop investigative leads. K-9 Mantra located multiple shell casings in the snow during the search.
As a result of this coordinated effort, detectives were able to quickly identify a suspect identified as Harris and establish probable cause. An arrest warrant was issued for first-degree murder.
Working in close coordination with the Springfield Police Department, Harris was located and arrested on the evening of Jan. 26, in Springfield, Missouri.
Harris was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on February 7, according to online jail records.
