KANSAS CITY —A man injured in a shooting this summer has died.

Just before 11p.m. July 4, police were dispatched to the 7100 block of Bellefontaine in Kansas City, Missouri on a shooting call. On arrival officers located an adult male shooting victim, later identified as 37-year-old Ashton Herring-Clemons injured in the front yard of a residence there.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. At the original scene officers identified a subject of interest who was detained for further investigation.

Detectives and Crime Scene investigators processed the scene and an aggravated assault investigation was initiated.

Ultimately detectives worked with prosecutors to present investigative findings for their determination of applicable charges regarding the detained subject of interest.

This week detectives were advised that Ashton Herring-Clemons died at the hospital as a result of his injures. Jackson County Medical examiners conducted their review and investigation and have ruled the death a homicide.

Detectives are working with prosecutors to present them with all new information for their updated consideration.
