As competition for kicket Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed five-time All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2024, to their practice squad.
Tucker did not play last season while he served a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy after he was accused of sexual misconduct by 16 massage therapists from eight high-end spas and wellness centers in the Baltimore area, according to a report from The Baltimore Banner in February 2025. All of the alleged misconduct reportedly occurred between 2012 and 2016, during Tucker's first five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Tucker has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations "unequivocally false" and describing the Banner's report as "desperate tabloid fodder."
The Ravens released Tucker in May 2025, ending his 13-year run in Baltimore which included seven Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl victory during his rookie season. Two months after his release, the NFL suspended Tucker for the first 10 games of the 2025 season. He served the entire suspension as a free agent and was eligible for reinstatement last November, when he had a tryout with the New Orleans Saints.
Tucker figures to serve as insurance to Butker who has struggled this season. Butker has missed five of 16 field goal attempts this season, which includes two misses during Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. A source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that Tucker was one of three kickers who worked out with the Chiefs on Tuesday, along with former Missouri Tiger and Los Angeles Rams kicker Harrison Mevis and Ben Sauls.
The Ravens released Tucker with three years remaining on a four-year, $22 million contract extension that had made him the NFL's highest-paid kicker at the time. At the time of the allegations and his subsequent release, Tucker was coming off the worst season of his career in which he missed 10 total kicks in 2024, three more than in any previous season.
Butker remained the only kicker on the Chiefs' 53-man roster Wednesday morning.
