Missouri woman drowns in swift flood waters

NEWTON COUNTY —A Missouri woman drowned just after 11a.m. Sunday in Newton County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 49-year-old Joplin woman was swept away by swift flood waters one mile west of Raccoon Road, northeast of Granby, Moshoal Creek.

She was not wearing a life jacket and was unable to to swim.  She was prononounced deceased just before 2:30p.m. at the recovery scene and transported to an autopsy facility in Joplin. The Patrol no longer releases names of drowning victims.
