The Kansas City Royals hot streak continued as Salvador Perez drove in two runs, Seth Lugo gave up one run in five effective innings, and the Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 at Rogers Centre
The win moved the Royals win streak to nine games. The last time Kansas City won nine straight games was in July 2017. Lugo improved to 6-7 on the season with the win, allowing six hits while striking out five and walking one. Perez drove in the first run of the game despite grounding into a double play, scoring Carter Jensen in the top of the first before in the bottom half of the inning Brett Bateman scored on Jesús Sánchez's sacrifice fly.
Perez tacked on a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning driving in Bobby Witt Jr, and in the sixth inning Kyle Isbel added insurance with an RBI sacrifice bunt bringing home Nick Loftin while Jensen had a sacrifice fly to score John Rave, putting the Royals up 4-1 at the end of six innings. Rave would cap the scoring for the Royals with an RBI single in the ninth inning driving in Tyler Tolbert.
In the bottom half of the ninth, Nathan Lukes hit a two-run single, bringing home Daz Cameron and Bateman, but was thrown out while trying to reach second base to end the game. At the plate, Rave was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk. Isaac Collins was 2-for-4 with a walk while Perez was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
Kanasas City and Toronto continue their series tomorrow as the Royals look to extend their win streak to double digits. Randy Dobnak (2-1, 1.58 ERA, 29Ks) takes the mound for Kansas City while Toronto has not announced a starter. First pitch is at 6:07pm, pregame will air at 5:30pm on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).
