Results are in from Tuesday's primary election on some key amendments in Missouri, as well as for candidates in Missouri that will head to the ballot for the General Election in November.
Many local county races were run uncontested. On key amendments in Missouri, voters in the state were heavily against Amendment 4. Under current state law, such ballot measures require a simple statewide majority for passage, a process that has been used in recent years to grant abortion rights, expand Medicaid and legalize marijuana. Amendment 4 would have required citizen-led ballot initiatives to win a majority in each of Missouri’s congressional districts, boundaries that are drawn by state lawmakers. Voters didn’t pass the measure with 82.5% of the vote.
Missouri voters also voted nearly unanimously against Amendment 5. Amendment 5 failed Tuesday, with no getting nearly 83% of the vote when it was called. On the other hand, Amendment's 1 and 2 both passed, with Amendment 1 receiving 82% yes votes, while Amendment 2 earned 77% yes votes.
In the state races, Republican Missouri Auditor was won by Scott Fitzpatrick, receiving 423,899 over opponent Gerald Wistrand with 71,367 votes. He will be opposed in November by Democrat Quentin Wilson who earned 241,848 over opponent Gregory Upchurch with 112,381 votes. Missouri State Senate District 34 saw Republican Mike Jones win with 11,772 votes over Sean Pouche, 5,360 votes, and Ryan Gerster with 1,780 votes. Jones will be opposed by Democrat Shereka Barnes who won with 11,453 votes over Pam May with 4,912 votes.
Taylor Crouse won the Republican Primary for the Missouri Representative District 11 seat receiving 2,472 against Tina Goodrick's 1,796 votes. Crouse will face Democrat Luke Rae, who ran unopposed. In the race for Missouri Representative District 10 seat Paul Gatewood won the Republican Primary. Gatewood received 1,852 votes to Skylar Smith's 774 votes. Gatewood will be listed alongside Democrat LaTonya Williams, who also ran unopposed.
For US House District 6 in Missouri, the seat to replace Sam Graves, Republican Chris Stigall won the Primary Election receiving 40,121 votes. He will be opposed in November by Democrat Josh Smead who won with 23,158 votes.
