Maryville City Manager Ryan Heiland announced proposed ordinances during the City Council meeting on October 26, which include significant increases in water rates due to the construction of a new Water Treatment Plant.
Water rates are set to rise by 50% in Fiscal Year 2027 and another 50% in FY 2028, followed by an annual increase of 2%. These changes are necessary to meet the Missouri Department of Natural Resources' requirement of generating 110% of the plant's operational costs.
The new plant aims to address existing water quality issues and improve the overall water system, including upgrading infrastructure for fire safety. Concerns have been raised about the financial impact on residents, particularly those with limited incomes, as the increases could significantly affect monthly water bills
