Nodaway County Health Inspections (June 2026)

The following are health inspections in Nodaway County. Inspections are released monthly.

Note that COS means corrected on site.

Kiss My Grits Kafe-129 W. Main, Burlington Junction (6-30-26)

Critical:

  1. Cake slices not covered in sliding door cooler.

Non-critical:

  1. Cap used for scoop, without handle, in pork cutlet seasoning. COS.
  2. Some flooring getting cracked, worn, and in disrepair.
  3. Discussed food storage in walk-ins.

Dean & Parker Mercantile-229 W. Main, Burlington Junction (6-30-26)

Non-critical:

  1. No covered trash can in restroom.
  2. No self-closer on restroom door.

Nopal Mexican Food-2717 S. Main (Food Truck) (6-29-26)

Non-critical:

  1. No handwashing signage at hand sink.

Pre-season inspection: equipment and trailer all clean, thermometers available. No food on trailer at time of inspections.

  1. Unlabeled spray bottle at waitress station. COS.

Non-critical:

  1. Tea containers not covered. COS.
  2. Women's restroom trash can not covered.
  3. Excess frost in walk-in freezer.

Happy Garden-514 N. Main (6-26-26)

Non-critical:

  1. Door handle hole in men's restroom door.

Raku Hibachi Sushi-523 N. Main (6-26-26)

Critcal:

  1. Need a hand sink towards front of the kitchen. Discussed location and options- needs to be done by June 1, 2027.
  2. Lots of gnats on pots, pan, sausage stuffer, shelving by back storeroom.
  3. Unlabeled spray bottle.
  4. Bowl of fly bait on shelving above pots and pans. COS.

Non-critical:

  1. Bad door gaskets: Both doors on 2-door meat cooler, One of the 3-door freezer doors, the smaller prep table, and the cooks prep table.
  2. Cup without handle in hibachi rice tub.
  3. HVAC vent loose above 3-door freezer.
  4. Flooring in disrepair throughout kitchen. Contractor contacted about a subfloor issue.

Joy Wok-1416 S. Main (6-26-26)

Follow-up: Hibachi bar cold temps still not held cold enough. Added ice to cold bar. Going to start using time control. Will require a log book with written procedure. Will follow up again next week.

Scooter's Coffee-1308 S. Main (6-25-26)

Critical:

  1. Sanitizer too weak. COS.

Non-critical:

  1. Stained ceiling above ice machine and store side.
  2. Basement has standing water. Items on floor and in water will need disposed of.
  3. Men's room toilet seat: paint worn to bare wood- not easily sanitized.
  4. Discussed worn seats, cabinets, and insect granulars.

Starbucks-1621 S. Main (6-25-26)

No violations.

Northwest Missouri State University-Elior Dining (J.W. Jones Student Union)-800 University Dr. (6-25-26)

Critical:

  1. Hose bibs without anti-siphon device in chemical room.

Non-critical:

  1. No handwashing signage on all hand sinks.
  2. Wall scraped and peeling paint in various areas throughout kitchen and halls.
  3. Flooring in disrepair in dry storeroom.
  4. Discussed milk dispenser tubing being cut diagonally.

Joy Wok-1416 S. Main (6-23-26)

Follow-up:

Critical:

  1. Roast beef not held at 135° or higher (was at 129°).
  2. Potentially hazardous foods not held at 41° or lower at hibachi bar.
  3. Unlabeled spray bottle. COS.

Sour Lemon-322 Oak, Guilford (6-22-26)

New trailer, properly equipped.

Gray Oil & Gas-22979 U.S. Hwy. 71 (6-18-26)

Critical:

  1. Dirty can opener.

Non-critical:

  1. Bad door gasket on Kenmore and Crosley upright freezer.

Discussed a customer concern, carpet in freezers, and hair restraints.

Burger King-1601 S. Main (6-2-26)

Follow-up:

Critical:

  1. Still have ants around self-serve soda counter. Baits are out.

Non-critical:

  1. Broken/Missing trim by back door.
  2. Broken corner tile by hand sink by office.

Kool Katz-986 S. Walnut (6-2-26)

Critical:

  1. Sanitizer too weak.

Non-critical:

  1. No test kits for sanitizer.
  2. Cup used for ice scoop, no handle.
  3. Back door propped open.
  4. Discussed approved source for ice.
  5. Discussed ware washing.

Joy Wok-1516 S. Main (6-1-26)

Critical:

  1. Can opener very dirty.
  2. Potentially hazardous foods not date marked
  3. Roast Beef held at 110° (must be 135° or above).
  4. Potentially hazardous foods at hibachi table not held at 41° or below, including: eggs, 66° ; shrimp, 63°; beef, 51°;  chicken, 61°;  pineapple, 60°; and cut peppers, 59°.
  5. Likewise at the fridge behind the salad bar: shrimp, 62°; cheese, 60°; and cut watermelon, 55°.
  6. Mechanical dishwasher not adequately dispensing sanitizer.
  7. Dead bugs in several kitchen light covers.
  8. Unlabeled spray bottle at waitress station by buffet line.

Non-critical:

  1. Lids missing and open on ingredient bins, also unlabeled.
  2. Beef brisket (wrapped in plastic wrap) on floor in walk-in freezer, as well as several boxes of food items.
  3. Bad door gaskets on cook's prep table refrigerator units.
  4. No handwashing signage at men's restrooms, sink by ice maker, and by back door.
  5. Not all refrigerators have thermometers.
  6. No test kits for sanitizer.
  7. No probe thermometers for cooks to use.
  8. Vent hood needs to be cleaned- kitchen is the worst, but hibachi grill as well.
  9. Some bowls, without handles, being used for ingerdient scoops.
  10. HVAC return vent extremely dirty by kithcen restroom.
  11. Kitchen restroom door closer is broken, door was open.
  12. Back door propped open.
