
ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after an arrest in Atchison.
Just after 9a.m. Friday, police responded to a residence in the 1300 block L Street in Atchison to investigate a report of a man beating a dog with a board, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.
Officers arrived to find 51-year-old Paul Widner and the injured dog outside the residence. During a confrontation with Widner he made threatening and aggressive movements towards the officers with the board and a knife.
He was taken into custody. The injured dog was taken by animal control to a vet clinic for treatment.
Widner is being held on requested charges of cruelty to an animal and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He remains jailed on a $2,500 bond, according to online jail records.
