DOUGLAS COUNTY —A man is in jail  after officers pieced together a long list of alleged crimes Thursday night in Douglas County.

Just after 9:30pm a white Chevy Silverado nearly hit a patrol vehicle near 6th and Wisconsin in Lawrence, according to Lawrence Police. The officer activated his lights and sirens but the driver of the truck kept going. The pursuit west on 6th Street continued at speeds up to 70mph and eventually ended just northwest of 6th and Lawrence Avenue.

The driver of the truck got out and ran, but left the truck in reverse. It collided the patrol vehicle.

The officer was able to jump out, tackle the fleeing driver and get him safely into custody.

Officers soon learned the truck was reported stolen and discovered another car had also been hit by the truck prior to the officer’s involvement. The driver of the truck was booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility suspected of several felonies along with Driving Under the Influence.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. The patrol vehicle was towed from the scene and the officer was able to continue his shift.
