
LAFAYETTE COUNTY —One person died in an accident just before 2p.m. Thursday in Lafayette County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported as traffic slowed for a construction zone a 2019 International semi driven by a 43-year-old Adel Georgia man was westbound on Interstate 70 near Odessa. The semi struck a 2015 Freightliner semi driven by a 41-year-old Yorktown, Virginia man. The impact caused the 2015 Freightliner to roll into the path of a 2015 Infiniti Q 50 driven by a 26-year-old Columbia man and a 2024 Freightliner driven by a 70-year-old Attalla, Alabama man. The impact pushed the 2024 Freightliner into the barrier wall and the vehicle overturned.
The Adel, Georgia man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
EMS transported the Infiniti driver, the Virginia man and the Alabama man to Centerpointe Medical Center. All three of the surviving drivers were properly restrained, according to the MSHP. The Patrol did not have seat belt usage details on the driver who died. The MSHP no longer releases names of accident victims.
