3 dead after Nodaway County head-on crash and fire

NODAWAY COUNTY —Three people died in an accident just before 1:30p.m. Saturday in Nodaway County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Chevy Equinox driven by a 59-year-old Carthage, Texas, woman was northbound on U.S. 71 one and one half miles north of Burlington Junction.

The vehicle crossed the center line and struck a southbound 2026 Ford Explorer driven by a 72-year-old Rockwell City, Iowa man head-on. After impact both vehicle caught on fire.

The 59-year-old Chevy driver, a 76-year-old female passenger from Rockwell City, Iowa in the Ford and a female passenger from Harlan, Iowa also a passenger in the Ford  were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Forensic Medical in Kansas City, Kansas.  Life Flight transported the Ford driver to Bryan West Medical in Lincoln, Nebraska. All four were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the MSHP. The Patrol no longer releases names of accident victims.
