St. Joseph will be getting its first new apartment complex in 22 years with the development of the Westward Pointe Apartments at the North Village Shoppes.
On Thursday, ground was broken in the area where Bryan Properties will build the apartments with one-, two-, and three-bedroom options. The new apartments will help to address housing needs in St. Joseph for individuals, students, families, and professionals looking to live and work in St. Joseph.
St. Joseph City Manager Mike Schumacher says St. Joseph needs housing across all spectrums, so any changes in the housing market creates a cascading effect.
"So, whether it's low-income housing, or its top end housing, all of it creates movement and opportunity for our community," Schumacher says on the KFEQmunnity show. "The piece here that everyone knows, and this isn't a St. Joseph unique issue its very much a national issue, is the cost of construction an materials and supplies to create houses."
The new complex will help create that cascading effect, with 180 apartments that will be built. The first buildings are expected to open in Spring 2028. Every unit will include key amenities including.
- Keyless/Smart Door Locks
- Washer and Dryer
- Private Patio or Deck
- Quartz Countertops
- Stainless Steel Appliances
Along with the amenities provided at the apartments, there will be other fun additions for residents that choose to live in the new apartments once they open.
- Outdoor Swimming Pool
- Clubhouse
- Coffee Bar
- High speed (gig) internet
- Outdoor Grills
- Online rent payment portal and digital maintenance request system
- 24-hour emergency maintenance
- Discounted membership rate to the YMCA for all residents
- On-site management
