Some residents relocated during fire at Kansas nursing home

SHAWNEE COUNTY —There were no injuries after nursing home fire in Topeka.

Just before 2a.m. Friday, crews responded to Presbyterian Manor nursing home fire at 4712 SW 6th Street in Topeka, according to a media release.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered smoke in the healthcare area of  nursing home where the sprinkler system had already suppressed the fire. Firefighters completed fire suppression operations and secured the sprinkler system to minimize water damage to the facility.

A small number of residents were relocated due to smoke extension, while others were able to shelter in place. The fire and smoke damage were contained to the area where the fire started.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical. Smoke detectors were found in the structure.
