Missouri Western State University will begin a national search for a new coach to lead the Griffon Softball program after Nicole Thompson stepped down.
Thompson is stepping down to become the next head coach the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. The job also opens the door for Thompson's husband, JT to return to the coaching ranks as well, joining Cumberlands as the assistant softball coach.
In two seasons guiding the Griffons, Thompson amassed a 64-39 overall record and a 23-25 mark in The MIAA.
"I am beyond grateful for my time here at MoWest and what we were able to accomplish in a short span," Thompson says in a news release from the university. "I want to thank Andy Carter, the entire athletic administration and all of Griffon Nation for welcoming and supporting my family here. I will cherish the memories I made leading a great group of women and a program so rich in tradition."
The search for eighth head coach in the history of the Griffon Softball program will begin immediately.
"Coach Thompson has made a positive impact on our department, our program and our student-athletes," Athletic Director Andy Carter says. "I thank her for her leadership and we wish her and her family the best in this next chapter of their careers and lives."
