KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man faces charges for a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this year.

Jer’ron D. McCallop, 34, faces 2nd Degree Felony Murder, 1st Degree Harassment, and 2nd Degree Harassment, according to the Jackson County prosecutor's office.

According to court records, Kansas City police responded to a shooting on Feb. 12, and located a male victim lying on the ground with a gun in his hand in a wooded area. He was declared deceased on scene.

Based on witness reports, detectives determined a shooting occurred after a disagreement between McCallop and a witness over a marijuana sale.

The defendant walked with the victim toward a driveway at the residence where witnesses were gathered. The defendant and victim had their firearms drawn and then started firing. Witnesses at the residence fired back in return. The victim was struck by gunfire and the McCallop fled.

McCallop had previously sent threatening messages to the witness before the shooting occurred.

According to RSMo Section 565.021.1(2), an individual could be charged with Felony Murder when they attempt or commit any felony, and, in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of such felony, another person is killed as a result.

A Jackson County judge set McCallop's bond to $100,000 cash only.
