SALINE COUNTY —A 13-year-old Kansas boy is in juvenile detention after he crashed his mother's car in Salina.
Early Friday, police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Marcella Drive in Salina for an alleged traffic violation, according to Salina Police Captain James Feldman. The 13-year old driver did not comply and drove away.
During the pursuit, the boy lost control of the vehicle and struck a traffic pole on south 9th Street. After the crash, the boy ran from the vehicle. Officers were able to locate and arrest him along the east portion of Sam's Club, 2919 Market Place.
The boy appeared to be intoxicated, according to Feldman and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for a medical screening and DUI testing. The boy was very uncooperative and struck a hospital security guard.
Police then transported the boy to the Juvenile Detention Center in Junction City where he is being held on a requested charge of DUI.
