Show horses and dogs killed in rural Kansas barn fire

SALINE COUNTY —Fire officials are investigating the cause of a barn fire that killed horses and dogs.

The fire in the 3000 block of South Burma Road was reported just before 10:30p.m. Monday, according to Saline Count Undersheriff Brent Melander.

The barn was completely destroyed. Five show horses and four dogs died.

The total loss of the show horses was approximately $100,000. Miscellaneous tools and horse equipment used for the upkeep of the horses along with feed and supplements, was a total loss of approximately $7,179. The value of the barn is unknown at this time.

 The Kansas State Fire Marshall is assisting with the investigation.
