Preliminary numbers are out for this year's early antlerless portion of firearms deer season.
6,524 deer were shot across the show-me state, a marked drop from last year's 8,494 total, and MDC is laying the blame at the feet of unseasonably hot weather.
The top three counties in the state for this section were Franklin (203), Howell (181), and Jefferson (177). Most of the counties in our region were among the lowest, with Worth County totaling the least reported deer (6), and Andrew and Holt counties failing to tally even one in the preliminary reports.
Deer season continues through January 15th, with November firearms season running from November 14th to 24th.
