John Duane Umbarger, the son of John Duane and Laveta Vaun (Payton) Umbarger, was born September 22, 1955, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended Fairfax High School.
On December 18, 1972, Duane was united in marriage to Kristy A. Springer in Rock Port, Missouri. They made their home in Tarkio, Missouri, and became the parents of four children, Tessa, Tylicia, Tralaine, and Tanner.
Duane worked as a farm hand for Hannah Farms, Joe Ray, and Ray Simpson. He then purchased Ray’s pest control business, owning and operating Umbarger Pest Control for 35 plus years.
Duane was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tarkio, teaching Sunday School, RA, and a Trustee. In 1980, Duane began serving on the Tarkio Volunteer Fire Department. He served as an Assistant Fire Chief and later Fire Chief, becoming an Honorary Fireman in January of 2023. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Duane passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 69.
Besides his parents, Duane was preceded in death by siblings, Dorothy and Michael Umbarger. Survivors include wife, Kristy Umbarger, Tarkio; children, Tessa (Travis) Martin, Tylicia (Rick Stillwell) Bradley, both of Fairfax, Tralaine (Matt) Moppin, Savannah, Missouri, and Tanner (Tara) Umbarger, Burlington Junction, Missouri; grandchildren, Kourtnee, Leslie, Jaxon, Kinsley, and Reece; great grandchildren, Isaac, Elizabeth, and Dean; siblings, Shirley Rhoades, Becky (Pete) Chastain, and Billy (Paula) Stone; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kendra (Jack) Naylor, and Kendal (Annjalee) Springer; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service: 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 18, 2025, First Baptist Church, Tarkio.
Open visitation begins 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 17, Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
Inurnment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
