Betty Osthoff, 93, of Shambaugh, Iowa, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025 at her home in Shambaugh.
Betty Jane Osthoff was born October 5, 1931 in Clearmont, Missouri the daughter of Jacob Cleavor Pruitt and Maude E. Colter. She grew up in Clearmont and graduated from Clearmont High School. Betty and Bryron Osthoff were united in marriage on March 20, 1999.
Betty had a wonderful work ethic. She began her working career as a nurse aid in the early 1950’s in the Clearmont Nursing Home. She later went on to get her beautician license. Betty eventually opened her own beauty shop. Through the years, she had a shop in New Market, Iowa, St. Joseph, Missouri and Shambaugh, Iowa.
Betty has been active in several churches in her lifetime. Most recently, she was an active member of the Shambaugh Church of God. She enjoyed being a part of the church as well as helping with mission trips and donating food and other items for children all over the world.
Betty loved her family, church, reading, gardening, cooking, and puzzle books. She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and traveling and especially enjoyed a cruise. Sending trinkets to her sister Helen as a way of keeping in touch and feeling close when they were far apart. Betty loved helping people.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents, Jacob and Maude Pruitt; sisters, Wilma, Helen, Maude Ella; brothers, Donald, Junior, Robert, Erving, Paul; son, Robert Renfro and daughter, Paula Barnhouse.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Byron Osthoff of Shambaugh; son, Kenneth Renfro of Everett, Washington; grandchildren, Christopher Renfro, Joseph Renfro, Brittney Renfro, Teri Renfro, Haley Millsaps, Autumn Renfro; two great grandchildren; as well as her step children; step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday June 28, 2025 at Church of God, Shambaugh, Iowa with Pastor William Fidler officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2025 at Nodaway Valley Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in the Clearmont Cemetery, Clearmont, Missouri. Memorials may be directed to the Shambaugh Church of God. Arrangements were entrusted to the Nodaway Valley Funeral Home of Clarinda.
