Lois passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at the Clarinda Regional Medical Center.  It was a beautiful Valentine's Day for her to be reunited with her husband Darrell who passed away in 2017.    The family has chosen to honor her life with a visitation service at the funeral home on Friday morning, February 20, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  A private family burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

Lois Ann Nelson was born on March 14, 1933, in rural Blanchard, the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Perry) Nelson.  Lois entered into eternal peace on Saturday morning, February 14, 2026 in Clarinda, Iowa at the blessed age of 92 years.

Lois' early years were spent on the family dairy farm alongside her five brothers.  The kids woke up early every morning to milk the Jersey Cows.  She attended Eureka Country School and graduated from Westboro High School with the Class of 1952.  On June 15, 1955 she was united in marriage to Darrell Spangler in Maryville, Missouri.  The couple then moved to Essex for a brief time before moving to Coin and later on settling in Norwich.  Due to Darrell's declining health, the couple moved to Clarinda when she resided until her passing.

During her working years she was employed with Garden View Care Center and Shenandoah Hand Hospital where she worked in laundry and housekeeping.  Some of her hobbies included watching John Wayne movies, crocheting, making doilies, knitting, sewing and quilting.  She loved making baby blankets and pot holders for her family and friends.  She had a green thumb when it came to gardening and tending to her flowers.  Lois also enjoyed tending to her chickens.  Spending time with family brought her great joy.  Times spend playing board games, putting together puzzles, doing word searches and playing dominoes were all cherished memories.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend.

She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Carl and Mabel, husband Darrell, daughter Darla Jolene Spangler, brothers Kenneth Nelson, Wayne (Irene) Nelson, Keith (Bea) Nelson, Lyle (Ethel) Nelson and Carroll Dean "Jake" Nelson.  Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters Wanda (Curtis) Isaacson of Clarinda, IA, Mary Lickei of Aurora, CO, Malena Keeler, Noretta Fuller, IA and Karen Spangler all of Shenandoah, IA; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jean Nelson and Kay Nelson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
