Marvin Lee Herron, the son of Ross and Cecile Mae (Fischer) Herron, was born December 4, 1937, near Watson, Missouri. He attended Opp Country School until the 4th Grade. He then attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1955.
On July 10, 1960, Marvin was united in marriage to Karen A. Schnegelberger at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Craig, Missouri. They made their home on the family farm north of Rock Port and became the parents of two daughters, Valerie and Thea.
Marvin was well-known as the guy with the flipped-up bill on his cap and the shirt that was never buttoned up. His family and his farm were his pride and joy. He grew up helping his dad on the farm and later farmed with his brothers before farming on his own. Marvin had row crops, hay, and a cow/calf operation. In the earlier years, he also had pigs, but he always loved the cows and baby calves the most. Though he gave up getting up in the middle of the night to check calves several years ago, he still kept some feeder calves around.
Marvin saw farming change a lot over the years, from using “real horsepower” to today’s big tractors run by computers. Some changes, such as tractors with cabs, were very much appreciated! Tractors ran by computers, not so much. He learned how to run the big hay baler with a computer, but he didn’t like it!
Marvin didn’t have any hobbies and rarely went on vacation. The farm was his hobby, and he felt there was no better place to be than in his chair with a view of his farm. Marvin passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at his home north of Rock Port, at the age of 87.
Besides his parents and wife, Karen Herron, Marvin was preceded in death by siblings, Willard (Louise) Herron, Dollie Mae Herron, and Gene Herron. Survivors include daughters, Valerie Duncan, Rock Port, and Thea (David) Knox, Weston, Missouri; grandchildren, Talya Culbertson, Bouton, Iowa, Eric (Quinn) Duncan, Rock Port, Karen (Nick) Coleman, Kansas City, Missouri, and David M. Knox, St. Joseph, Missouri; great-granddaughter, Nora Duncan, Rock Port; sister-in-law, Kathy Herron, Rock Port; and numerous nieces and nephews.
