Marilyn Ruth Scott, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of the Maryville community, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27th, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on December 1st, 1928, in Allendale, Missouri, Marilyn lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to others.
Marilyn was a devoted educator, earning her Master's in Education from Northwest Missouri State University. Her teaching career spanned several cities, including Des Moines, IA, Sacramento, CA, St. Joseph, MO, and finally Maryville, MO, where she touched the lives of countless students with her passion for learning and commitment to their success.
A proud member of several organizations, Marilyn was actively involved in PEOHL, DAR, Modern Managers, and was an alumna of Alpha Sigma Alpha. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a dedicated member of the Methodist Church, where she organized funeral dinners for many years, providing comfort and support to grieving families.
Marilyn was known for her immaculate lawn and flower beds, her love of baking cookies, and her warm hospitality. She was a great hostess, always ready with treats and drinks for anyone who visited her home. Her parents, John and Kathryn House, her twin sister, Madelyn Thompson, and brother, John Leo House, preceded her in death, as did her beloved husband, John Scott, whom she married on June 2, 1952. They shared 30 wonderful years together before his passing in 1982.
Marilyn is survived by her loving children, Jonathan (Bonnie) Scott and Jason Scott of Maryville, MO, and Jennima (Gene) Owen of Kansas City, MO. She was a proud grandmother to Drew (Yike) Scott, Meridee (Kevin) Dodson, Kyle (Emily) Scott, Preston (Brittany) Owen, and Katie Owen, and a doting great-grandmother to Kasen, Journey, and Blake Dodson, Weston and Simon Scott, and Caroline and Porter Owen.
Visitation will be held at Bram Funeral Home in Maryville, MO, on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. Pallbearers will include Alan Scott, Butch Scott, Kyle Scott, Preston Owen, Kevin Dodson, and Drew Scott.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, reflecting Marilyn's lifelong dedication to her faith and community. Arrangements are provided by Bram Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Miriam Cemetery in Maryville, MO.
Marilyn Ruth Scott will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
