Extreme cold temperatures hitting the region are forcing schools to cancel classes for Friday with wind chills as low as -13 expected to hit the area and some snowfall expected this weekend.

There is a Cold Weather Advisory in effect from the National Weather Service until midnight on Saturday.  A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 6pm on Friday to 6pm on Sunday.

On Thursday evening, the King City School District, the South Holt School District, and the West Nodaway School District all canceled classes due to the cold wind chills plaguing the area.

Throughout the remainder of Thursday night, the Chillicothe School District, the Maryville School District, the Maysville School District, the Mound City School District, and the North Nodaway School District all canceled classes as well.  North Nodaway students will have an AMI day with learning at home.

The Northeast Nodaway School District, the Stanberry School District, the Stewartsville School District, and the Union Star School District also called off school Friday.  In Kansas, the Atchison School District and the Hiawatha School District have canceled classes.

The Falls City Public Schools in Nebraska have also called off classes and activities for the day with the extreme cold.
