James C. Mann, 79, of Urbandale, Iowa, and formerly of Farragut, Iowa, entered into eternal rest at Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa, on Monday, January 19, 2026.
James Curtis Mann was born in Shenandoah, Iowa, on September 9, 1946, to Orin Curtis and Della LaVerne (Rundquist) Mann. He entered into eternal rest on January 17, 2025, at Mercy West Hospital in West Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 79.
He grew up in Farragut, Iowa. After graduating from Farragut High School in 1965, he attended Northwest Missouri State University for a year then went to Arizona State University where he obtained his BS in education. James returned to NWMSU to get his master’s in education in 1977. He began his teaching career at Malvern High School in Malvern, Iowa, in 1969, and then moved to Carroll, Iowa, in 1971 where he taught at Kuemper High School until 1996. On June 8, 1973, James was united in marriage to Colleen Kay Kish in Griswold, Iowa. After retiring from teaching in 1996, James worked at McDonalds as a supervisor until April 1, 2012.
In high school, James was involved in athletics, and his passion for sports continued as a coach until 1992. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years and attended the First United Methodist Church in Carroll, Iowa, while residing there. In his spare time, James enjoyed doing anything that involved being outdoors. He especially loved his time playing golf, hunting, and fishing. He was a fan of music, watching old western movies and anything that had to do with history.
Preceding him in death were his parents; stepmother, Farrell Mann; brother, Jerry Mann, stepsister, Monica Tiemeyer; and stepbrothers, Terry and Ron Allely. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Colleen; daughter, Angie Spencer and husband Mike; son, Andy Mann; three grandchildren, Dayna, Brooke and Maxon Spencer; sisters, Judy Jeske, Jane Halbach, Joan Zanders; sister-in-law, Donna Mann; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at The Waterfalls in Farragut, Iowa, on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet relatives and friends with a visitation at The Waterfalls prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Pastor Noel Gandy will be officiating the service. Inurnment will be at Farragut Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation.
